Why You Should Quit Smoking Now
Smoking is indeed a problem, because it can lead to all sort of complications and diseases such as lung cancer. That is why if you do smoke, you should quit smoking now.
Although you may think you know why you should quit, you need to know that there are hundreds of other reasons you’ve never thought about them. Besides the cancer and heart diseases that smoking causes, you’ll have to consider what effects will this have both on the long run and on the short run on your body.
Many people say that they don’t need to quit smoking now, and they all give all sort of explanations. Some of them say that they are too young and so they could easily give up smoking when they would be older. Others, on the contrary, they say that they are too old and so they don’t need to quit smoking now or that they can’t quit smoking now.
In fact, it really doesn’t matter if you’re young or old, or if you started smoking a few days ago or twenty years ago. The truth is smoking has a disastrous effect on everybody, regardless of his age or physical conditions.
Why Is It So Hard to Quit Smoking Now?
Before starting the actual process of quitting, you’ll first have to want to quit. You’ll have to say “I want to quit smoking now”. Once you’ve decided that this is what you really wish, you’ll have to get ready for the process, because as you probably already know, this isn’t easy.
Quitting is hard mainly due to two major reasons: the physical addiction and the psychological addiction, the one we call it “habit”. In order to completely escape from the need to smoke you’ll have to break both of these addictions. Unfortunately there isn’t any other way.
Reasons Why You Should Quit Smoking Now
You can’t really quit smoking if you don’t have a couple of reasons. You can’t just say “I want to quit smoking now” and the next day when you’ll wake up the urge will be gone. It just doesn’t work this way. You have to fight for it. You have to prove yourself that you really want to quit smoking now, that this is indeed the thing you want to do.
That is why when deciding to quit you should make a list of reasons. They will be the reasons for which you want to quit smoking now. These reasons are easy to find. They can be personal reasons, health reasons or obligations.
For example, one reason could be the aging process. Ask yourself if you really want to see yourself aging quickly. Because this is what smoking does to your body. So, one reason for which you should say that you want to quit smoking now can be this one.
Another one can be the way you smell. Tobacco in general has a bad smell, why should you have to put up with this? All you have to do is quit smoking now.
One more reason why you should quit smoking now and definitely the most important one, can be your health. The sooner you’ll quit this nasty habit the more your health will benefit from it.
It’s not easy, but it isn’t impossible either. All you have to do is find some good reasons and really wish to live a longer and happier life. This should be enough to make you say you want to quit smoking now.

Quit Smoking Despite The Challenges
Smoking, for most people who have already started the habit and are hesitant to let go, denies the fact that they are living an unhealthy lifestyle. Some nicotine addicts would claim that they are just smoking for the sake of letting go of stress, anxieties and other sorts of life-downers. Still, there are others; who claim that smoking and cigarettes are the two best things that ever happened in their lives. If you find yourself in either of the two situations, then it is just about time to start thinking of the facts and the negative implications of smoking.
And yes, reality does bite. The first major part of your body that gets all the negativity of smoking is your brain. If you still did not notice, anything that your body is capable of doing the right way comes from the command center – the brain. If there is anything that causes your brain from functioning well, it just plainly means that it is harmful to the body in general. The worse part about smoking is that it cripples your brain from working the way it should if you still refuse to quit smoking.
The number of young smokers today just prove to the rest of the world that smoking is the greatest generator of lung cancer. Smoking at a very young age increases the risk of a person acquiring lung cancer and can possibly lead to death before the age of 60. It has been studied that a tobacco, the main ingredient of cigarettes, has 43 elements that cause this deadly disease. The longer a person is exposed to it, the higher is the risk of falling prey under such deadly health condition.
Preventing yourself from developing lung cancer is possible. No regrets are guarantied to those who have whole-heartedly decided to quit smoking for good. If you love the life that you have and would like to continue living it, do what you can most to resist the addiction that is delivered by puffing nicotine in your body. Do yourself and your loved ones a favor, act now; quit smoking.
Smoking is very addictive. When it all comes down to it, quitting is the last thing you would want to do. It’s simply because a moment without a cigarette stick in between your lips feels like a complete torment. When you are addicted, you are hooked for life. It’s addicting influence lasts longer than the duration of a rocky marriage. But most smokers’ reasons as to how difficult quitting smoking can become, are still considered insufficient because quitting can still be done. It can be solved no matter how smokers reason out.
All it takes is determination. Yes, quitting is difficult because aside from the health impact that it causes for the body to experience, constant craving for it is the main problem which keeps on coming back. A person will know that he is on the brink of quitting and smoking again when he suffers from withdrawal symptoms which happens differently to different people. A person may experience dizziness with headache, a dry throat and constant hunger on the process of withdrawing away from smoking and yet, another person may experience a completely different set of symptoms such as coughing, mouth sores and sleep disturbances. It never is the same for people who are trying to quit smoking but all who have had this experience get passed this stage.
Aside from the smoking withdrawal symptoms, the usual scenario happens. You start to tell yourself that you could go on your smoke-free days by just forgiving yourself after smoking one or maybe two sticks today. If it isn’t called cheating then I don’t know what it is but, in this case, depriving yourself of the goal that you really should attain for quitting smoking is another burden for you to bear.
Forgive yourself and don’t think instantaneously that just because you couldn’t get passed smoking for today, doesn’t make you a smoker back from the start. The more you instigate that you shouldn’t really be smoking even a stick of cigarette, the better your repulse is going to be against your cravings to smoke.

Effective Ways to Quit Smoking
It is a big difference between a smoker that has stopped smoking and a non smoker. Because the smoker is fighting the addiction and resists having a cigarette. The non smoker can not think of anything worse than smoking and that person is really more of a fanatic that often express his or her feelings about smoking and smokers. It is kind of aggressive behaviour and that attitude helps them to stay non-smokers.
Some smokers who quit smoking years ago can still feel for having a cigarette after a meal, with the coffee. So if you are trying to quit smoking and hear people talk like that, it is scary to hear. Those persons only quit smoking at a conscious level, that is they decided to stop, but unconsciously, smoking is still an attractive prospect for them.
The number of ways to quit are many now and we have got several new products during the last decade or so! Nicotine patches has been around for many years and works great. Many smokers just quit without actually thinking about it when they use these patches. The statistics tell that the ratio for persons that quit long term is rather low though.
Chewing gums can take some time to get used to as the taste is not what chewing gums use to be. They work good in the sense that people do not smoke any more. The negative side-effect is that many can not stop with the gums! Good for the lungs but you still have the cost.
You can also find tablets, lozenges, inhalers and Zyban which the stop smoking drug. If that is not enough you can always find plenty of people out there willing to tell you how to stop smoking, you can find tips everywhere about effective ways to quit smoking.
A lot of smokers try a couple of methods at the same time and we have seen persons with nicotine patches, chewing gum and snuffing at the same time. The good thing is that they save their lungs a little. Unfortunately they are enforcing the addiction.
Most smokers are unaware of the unconscious mind. You need to learn about that as it is important if you are going to make the effort to free yourself from the bad effects of smoking. If you decide to quit, you should do it the right way. Then you can start with a proper smoking cessation program that will leave you free of the desire to smoke. The right psychological methods and techniques you will help you to control the smoking addiction and become free from its grip.

Characteristics of People Who Quit Smoking
People who have successfully quit smoking – what characteristics do they posses?
Consider the following. Those who did stop smoking:
* Were very unhappy about being a smoker.
* Viewed themselves as too dependent on tobacco.
* Experienced smoking as having a negative impact on their life.
* Had a determination to stop smoking.
* Implemented action steps. They found ways to quit smoking and acted on them – (example: studied material that gave them insight and understanding which set them on a new course, tried quit smoking aids, researched ways to quit smoking, sought quit smoking support, etc.)
* Were willing to experience the discomfort of withdrawal in anticipation of the reward.
People who succeed have a conviction about it. It is like a “cause” that they believe in and so they “take-a-stand” for it.
You can take it a step at a time and follow your convictions if you are one of those who wants to quit smoking. There are also many resources available that can help you, as well as community support. In all of my writings, you will always hear me say that there is a type of mindset and a particular place of being that brings about long term success.
There really is a place of being that resolves around who you are. For the smoker, smoking is actually supportive of the very person that they are. There is an understanding about this that I hope will be discovered by those who want to quit smoking; an understanding that will give them a new outlook (or mindset) which will effect who they are (or will be) to some degree. Smoking is not just something that the person does. Smoking is actually an extension of who the person is. Can a person stop being who they are? Though the nicotine aspect of smoking is a difficult issue, it is not the “thing” that actually prevents someone from long term success at quitting. The concept of not being able to quit being who they are is the “thing” that prevents long term success.
So then, where is a solution? Well, it begins with the characteristics of a successful quitter which I shared above. A genuine desire to succeed must be there and this is not something that someone can give to another. It is either there or it is not. Also, for long term success, it goes even deeper. Smoking is rooted in developmental issues. As I said, it is actually an extension of who a person is therefore it is important for a person to consider personal development issues for the purpose of becoming a different person to some degree; a person who’s emotional support, identity, security and validation do not come from smoking. Again, the desire to be a different person, one whose emotional needs are not met by smoking, is not something that someone can give to another. A person either has the desire to be a different person or they don’t. In some of my other writings I explain in detail about personal development but for now I hope you can see that this is an important part of the process.
In the meantime, if you are struggling, then during your times of struggle and set-backs always remember – There is no condemnation! What matters the most is – Intent and Motive.

Can you Really Quit Smoking?
If you think that smoking is a harmless little hobby and all the people harping on you to quit are over reactors, think again. If the problem people have with quitting smoking is that they are addicted to nicotine, why would they want to put more of what you’re addicted to in your body in the form of patches or gum as your attempt to quit?
One benefit of quitting however is that as your body realizes the benefits of not smoking, your energy levels will increase, and you will begin to feel better physically. Becoming physically active will not only help you control your weight, but will also give you more energy, improve your health, take your mind off smoking, and help relieve the stress and moodiness that may occur as a result of withdrawal from nicotine.
If you afraid of weight gain after you quit smoking, here is the thing. Even if you do gain weight when you quit smoking, the health risks of smoking are far greater…you would have to gain over 150 pounds to make your health risks as high as when you smoked. If you do not run away from or try to numb your cravings to smoke by eating, you will not gain weight when you quit smoking. – By now, you should be looking forward to your first smoke, but you should feel good about cutting your smoking habits down by half if not more.
Right now, you don’t want to give up smoking because you are terrified of how you will feel when you can’t smoke. Your real job in giving up smoking lies in really understanding that you don’t need to smoke. If you don’t want to quit smoking after reading these shocking figures, you really need to get your head examined.
I don’t have the willpower to quit smoking forever. Now I am even farther in the future, and now I don’t even think about smoking at all. Why Should I Quit Smoking
Even though quitting smoking is not easy, but it is not impossible. In order to achieve your goal of quitting, you need to know what you’re up against, what your options are, and where to go for help. All of this can be found here.
Why Is It So Hard to Quit Smoking?
The only answer as to why it is hard for people to quit smoking and stay quit is Nicotine.
Nicotine – Nicotine is a drug found naturally in tobacco. The drug is extremely addictive, just as addictive as heroin or cocaine. With the passage of time, a person becomes bodily and emotionally obsessed with, or dependent on, nicotine. Studies have shown that smokers have to deal with both the physical and psychological dependence to be triumphant at quitting and staying quit.
Why Should I Quit?
Your Health – Most of the times it is the health concern that makes people quit smoking. This is a very real concern: About half of all smokers who continue to smoke will end up dying from a smoking-related illness.
Cancer – It is known to all that smoking is the leading cause behind lung cancer, but few people realize it is also a risk factor for many other kinds of cancer as well, including cancer of the mouth, voice box (larynx), throat (pharynx), esophagus, bladder, kidney, pancreas, cervix, stomach, and some leukemia’s.
Lung Diseases – Pneumonia has been incorporated in the list of diseases caused by smoking since 2004. Smoking also increases your hazard of getting lung diseases such as emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Emphysema and chronic bronchitis can be found in people as young as 40, but are more commonly diagnosed later in life, when the symptoms are more severe.
Heart Attacks, Strokes, and Blood Vessel Diseases – Heart-attacks are said to be twice the cause of death of smokers as compared to non-smokers. And smoking is a key risk factor for tangential vascular disease, a contraction of the blood vessels that carry blood to the leg and arm muscles. Smoking also affects the walls of the vessels that carry blood to the brain (carotid arteries), which can cause strokes. Men who smoke are more likely to grow erectile dysfunction (impotence) because of blood vessel disease.
Blindness and Other Problems – Smoking also causes untimely wrinkling of the skin, bad breath, bad smelling clothes and hair, yellow fingernails, and an augmented risk of macular degeneration, one of the most widespread causes of blindness in the elderly.
Special Risks to Women and Babies – Women have some exclusive risks associated to smoking. Women over 35 who smoke at the same time as using birth control pills have a superior risk of heart attack, stroke, and blood clots of the legs. Women who smoke are more probable to have a miscarriage or a lower birth-weight baby. Low birth-weight babies are more likely to die or have learning and physical problems.
Years of Life Lost Due to Smoking – Based on data collected in the late 1990s, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) anticipated that adult male smokers lost an average of 13.2 years of life and female smokers lost 14.5 years of life because of smoking. And given the diseases that smoking can root, it can take away your quality of life long before you die. Smoking-related illness can bound your activities by making it harder to breathe, get around, work, or play.
Help Is Available
With the extensive range of therapy services, self-help materials, and medicines available today, smokers have more tools than ever to help them quit smoking for good.

Quit Smoking With a Little Help From Zyban, Chantrix
Smoking Cessation Information Center. Quit Smoking… With a Little Help From Your Friends…
You’ve decided. This time, you’re really ready to quit smoking. And you aren’t going to take no for an answer.
So, how do you ensure that your determination to stop smoking delivers results that last? How do you convince yourself, and everyone else, that this isn’t just another cold turkey experiment doomed to end in failure, like those other times?
If you’ve tried going it alone or using quit smoking aids like nicotine gum and patches all to no avail, maybe it’s time to try something new… to give yourself a fighting chance. After all, this could literally be the fight of your life.
Do You Need Help to Stop Smoking?
You probably could use some outside help to stop smoking if:
You have tried hard to quit smoking or cut back but haven’t been able to.
You want to stop smoking for good, but just keep puffing away.
You find you need more cigarettes to get the same good feeling you used to get from them.
When you try to stop smoking, you have unpleasant withdrawal symptoms like cigarette cravings, anxiety, irritability, headaches, stomachaches, restlessness, drowsiness and difficulty concentrating.
You have a serious health problem you know is made worse by tobacco use (like heart or breathing problems) but you just can’t quit smoking.
If any of these sound like you, it may be time to ask your doctor about prescription quit smoking aids and how to get the most out of them.
The Facts About Prescription “Helpers”: Zyban and Chantix
There are two main prescription-only tablets on the market being prescribed by doctors to help their patients quit smoking: Zyban and Chantix. They are both nicotine-free products taken in tablet form to help reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms. But they have distinct differences.
Quit Smoking With Zyban
Zyban works on brain chemicals, reducing your urge to smoke and lessening the withdrawal symptoms. This makes it easier for many users to quit smoking and stay quit. You take a Zyban pill twice a day and then decide on a date to stop smoking, usually in the second week of taking Zyban.
Zyban makes the process of quitting easier by minimizing the withdrawal symptoms outlined earlier and controlling your nicotine cravings. Its active ingredient, bupropion, is also contained in Wellbutrin, a prescription anti-depressant.
It’s important to note that Zyban is NOT a magic bullet. It works for about 1/3 of users who were able to quit smoking for at least a month with its help. That success rate drops off over time. Your chances will be increased if you use Zyban in combination with a stop smoking support program or counseling.
Zyban is possibly the best known and most prescribed smoking cessation aid, but a newer product – Chantix – actually boasts a higher success rate.
Quit Smoking With Chantix
Chantix is also a prescription-only medication taken orally to help quit smoking. Like Zyban, it contains no nicotine so if needed it can be used with nicotine replacement products like gum or patches. You take one Chantix for the first three days of treatment, and then two a day until treatment ends.
The documentation on Chantix quotes independent studies that show Chantix is better at helping participants kick the habit: it says 44% were able to stop smoking with Chantix while only 30% quit while on Zyban.
This could be because Chantix is a considerably different product with unique properties. Its active ingredient is varenicline, not bupropion. And it has a dual action mechanism to help stop smoking:
Even though Chantix doesn’t contain any nicotine, it provides the body with some nicotine-like effects that help ease the cravings and withdrawal symptoms.
And Chantix also works to block the effects of nicotine on the brain to reduce the pleasure reward of smoking.
Summing Up
Treatment with both Zyban and Chantix lasts at least 12 weeks, maybe longer if you need additional support to stay off cigarettes. Your doctor is the best person to ask about which product is better for you. He or she will take into account any medical conditions you may have and drugs you currently use to ensure no negative interactions.
