All About Anorexia Nervosa – Signs, Symptoms and Treatment

Anorexia nervosa is an illness that affects mostly teenage girls, but cases of anorexia have been encountered at elder women and men also. In short words, those with anorexia intentionally starve themselves in order to lose weight, and the main problem is that they continue to starve themselves even after losing a lot of weight, which greatly endangers their health and can lead them to die of starvation eventually, if they are not stopped.

It usually begins in the puberty, and its main cause is nervous-based. Modern society’s beauty standards consider slim to be beautiful and many people think fat is ugly and disgusting, so girls try to do anything they can to be as slim as possible, and they take this obsession too far. Although the hunger causes them pain and suffering , those with anorexia pretend that they are not hungry and they do everything they can to get more and more thin. Their image of their own body becomes distorted and they see themselves as fat all the time.

Anorexia can threaten the life if starvation continues for a longer period. It can seriously affect the heart and heart rate and lead to heart failure, or it can cause osteoporosis to appear because the bones can be weakened if they are not supplied with the minerals that they need. In the women’s case anorexia leads to amenorrhoea, and in men’s case to the loss of potency.

Furthermore, in some cases it can also affect the temporal lobe of the brain, which starts to malfunction if the body does not gain enough minerals.

In order to help those with anorexia you must first discover that they suffer from it. Since their own image over their bodies is distorted they are not aware that they have an illness that needs to be treated, and they will refuse to belive it if you tell them. Those with anorexia nervosa can be spotted by the following symptoms:

-they are obsessed with losing weight, they talk about diets and losing weight all the time

-they refuse to eat a meal when you offer them one, by making up fake reasons such as they are not hungry or they just ate

-even though they are very slim they continue to do a lot of physical exercise and try to lose more weight

-some of them can go further, and each time they eat they force themselves to vomit right after, or they overuse laxatives to empty their stomach

The treatment for those with anorexia consists in making them gain weight and eat so they can re-establish the body’s balance. Most of them refuse to admit they have a problem so they must be forced to do it. Besides this, psychiatric treatment is needed, in order to make the patients realize that they have a problem and that in fact it’s all in their head that they are not thin enough.

There are many non-profit organizations designed to help those with anorexia overcome their problem, so seeking help from one of them is recommended.

The Truth You Have to Know About Heart Disease

There is a lot of important information on heart disease that you should be familiar with, not only if you already have heart disease but also just in general, so that you can take the essential steps in order to defend yourself from receiving heart disease in the future the best that you can.

One of the most main pieces of information on heart disease is about what heart disease really is. It is a wide, all-encompassing term and is not a single form or disorder but rather is a set of diverse different diseases and conditions. The term ‘heart disease’ then refers to any problem in any of the different parts of your cardiovascular system, which consist of your heart and as well the blood vessels all through your body.

There are a number of people who are at danger for heart disease and the majority will be those who have a family lineage of heart disease. So, if inherited or hereditary heart conditions are ordinary in your family lineage, then it would be prudent to make certain you discuss this heredity with your doctor and to ensure you maintain regular annual check ups to look for any latent problems. If you do this, then you can evade serious problems down the road.

Heart disease remains one of the key reasons of early death in the world today. While this news might sound depressing on the surface, the actuality is that the sheer volume of early deaths brought about by heart disease has declined considerably in recent years.

The reason for this is that remarkable steps have been achieved in terms of the treatment of coronary disease. The development of drugs designed to stop heart attacks as well as surgeries intended to eradicate problems and reinstate proper heart functioning have become quite extensive and the amount of dead caused by heart disease have been spectacularly reduced.

Origins of heart disease

Another of the most vital information on heart disease is about how it is caused, and there are in fact a number of diverse things that are believed as being accountable for causing heart disease. Although you are likely to hear a lot regarding preventing cardiovascular disease the truth is that sometimes no matter what you do you just cannot stop it.

After all, there are several kinds of heart disease that are inherited, meaning that you are born with them. In addition, there are other forms which are obtained, and normally in this regards you tend to develop them over the course of your life. The difference between these obtained forms and the inherited forms, is that you can typically prevent the obtained forms whereas the inherited forms you cannot.

Heart disease prevention

Perhaps the most significant and valuable information on heart disease of all involves prevention. There have been a number of available preventive measures that can significantly lessen the problems. The awareness of the public has been raised to a great extent in terms of educating people in regards to the benefits of appropriate diet, keeping away from smoking and drugs, and investing time in a strong cardiovascular exercise program intended to make the heart much stronger.

A regular check up with your physician may not prevent all types of heart disease from taking place, but it undeniably can have a major effect on catching a heart problem before it turns into a serious matter. As with any problem or condition, catching the problem early on will provide the momentum for getting treatment as soon as possible. When treatment is carried out rapidly, the ability to avoid or successfully treat the problem before it becomes life threatening is a high likelihood.

Several other preventive measures that you can do are: keep a healthy weight, get at least thirty minutes of work out every day, maintain your cholesterol levels within healthy ranges, control your blood sugar if you have diabetes, control your blood pressure, and make certain that you eat a diverse diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables.

Heart disease research

Heart disease research is critical when it comes to learning regarding what heart disease is and the causes of it, as well as solutions that can be employed to help treat and even prevent heart disease. There are a number of incredible organizations out there that perform heart disease research.

One heart disease research organization in particular is The Research Center for Stroke and Heart Disease, which is an organization that is non-profit, and which was founded in order to raise understanding and prevent stroke and heart disease worldwide. It designs, puts into practice, and evaluates a variety of projects in order to educate individuals and as well as inspire them to adopt certain practices which have been shown to decrease risk factors.

Another heart disease research organizations is the British Heart Foundation, which is an organization that is deemed as being the nation’s heart charity, and which concentrates on three very important things in particular: investing in revolutionary research, supporting and caring for heart patients, and offering fundamental information to help people decrease their own risk of dying prematurely from a heart or circulatory related sickness.

Harvard Medical School is another center that focuses a great part of their concentration on heart disease research, and they have actually been doing this for some decades now. They recommend a vast amount of information on heart disease, such as about what it is, what causes it, new research findings and statistics, and so on.

This research on heart disease is in fact the single thing that can help the grim situation involving heart disease in the world these days, and hopefully sometime in the near future this research will show the way to findings on how heart disease can be totally avoided altogether.

Facts About Heart Disease You Need To Know

Basically, heart disease is a disorder affecting the ability of the heart to function normally. There are many forms of heart disease of varied etiology.

The most widespread form of heart disease is high cholesterol. In the initial stages of the disease, lesions and cracks will form in the walls of blood vessel walls, usually close to the heart itself. The body will repair the damage by depositing fatty substances such as cholesterol and lipoproteins to fill the cracks.

If the body does not get adequate vitamin C that are vital for keeping the blood vessel walls from cracking, the repeated deposition of fatty substances can clog the blood vessels and thus cause a stroke or heart attack.

Types of Heart Diseases

The common forms of heart disease are: coronary heart disease, ischaemic heart disease, pulmonary heart disease, hereditary heart disease, hypertensive heart disease, inflammatory heart disease, and valvular heart disease.

Heart diseases may also occur due to congenital reasons, heart valve malfunction, electrical rhythm of the heart going out of sync, alcoholic cardiomyopathy, aortic regurgitation, heart attacks and heart failure.

Causes of Heart Disease

The major causes of heart disease include obesity, smoking, hypertension, diabetic and a sedentary lifestyle. Others include menopause in women, getting on in age, especially after reaching sixty-five years of age and finally, the arterial walls being struck down with infections.

Damage to the heart muscle or valves due to a congenital defect, as well as inflammation and damage associated with various viral, bacterial, fungal or parasitic diseases can also cause heart disease.

Disease can also cause heart disease, for example atherosclerosis, dermatomyositis, Friedrich’s ataxia, hemochromatosis, Kawasaki disease and Paget’s disease of bone. Rheumatic fever and syphilis can also cause heart disease, as can genetic or autoimmune disorders in which cellular proteins in the heart muscle are deranged or which disrupt enzymes affecting cardiac function.

Common Symptoms of Heart Disease

The most common symptoms of heart disease include heaviness or pressure on the chest; dizziness; nausea; shortness of breath; back or shoulder pain; irregular or fast heartbeats and excessive heart palpitations. If one encounter any of these problems, it would be prudent to consult a doctor as soon as possible.

Diagnosing Heart Disease

Everyone should be concerned with heart disease and should discuss testing for heart disease with a doctor especially if one have a family history or aggravating lifestyle choices. High blood pressure, frequent loss of breath, heavy smoking or drinking, obesity, high cholesterol, inactivity and diabetes are sound reasons for heart disease testing.

Cure for Heart Disease

On diagnosis of heart disease, the doctor will probably recommend that a patient adopt a healthy lifestyle such as having frequent exercise, a healthy diet, avoiding alcohol and cigarettes. The next treatment will more than likely involve medications and finally surgery.

Although there are many different forms of treatment for heart disease, there is no cure for heart disease. There are promising theories, however none yet have been perfected yet.

Cellular therapy is promising as a possible cure for heart disease. Cellular products have been shown to hold great potential for the treating of damaged and diseased tissues in the body. The sources for cellular product also come in a variety of sources, such as bone marrow stem cell and peripheral blood, as well as from myoblasts from skeletal muscle cells.

Cellular therapy is a growing field for clinical research. It is of growing interest to medical researchers as potential treatments for congestive heart failure and ischemic heart disease, for instance.

The research to date has shown positive results. There are also various other forms of promising treatment. So a cure for heart disease may be a reality in the future.

All treatment for heart disease should be discussed with a doctor but most of the medications will be available on prescription. If the medication is not effective, then the last option may be surgery. There are wide ranges of surgeries and many of them are less invasive so recovery time is shorter.

One should also understand that heart disease is preventable by living a healthy lifestyle such as regular exercise, having low salt and low fat diets as well as abstaining from alcohol and smoking. After all, prevention is much better than cure.

Acne Treatment – 4 Tips About Acne Laser Treatment

Acne is a lifelong problem for most people, adults and teenagers alike. Most people would want to get rid of acne due to vanity. But there is a deeper reason why people want to clear their faces of acne. Acne is understandably the cause of humiliation and self-consciousness for most people. Moreover, acne is also a cause of discomfort that it affects their professional and social performance.

There are now new ways acne can be treated, and they are available to patients. All they have to do is to choose the most appropriate medication according to their skin type. Acne is treated by various topical and oral remedies. When acne becomes inflamed, the aid of antibiotics may be needed. Moreover, other common treatments for acne are punch grafts, chemical peels and excision.

But another popular method to treat acne is through laser. Laser treatment can work as well as the aforementioned treatments. However, it also has the added benefit of lessening acne scars. As a matter of fact, this treatment is often recommended for acne cases where scarring already exists. Laser treatment can help lighten out the scars.

Laser as a treatment for acne has been around since the 80’s. It may be the perfect treatment for those people who are afraid of serious side effects of the drugs and medications.

(1) 2 Types of Laser Acne Treatment

Laser acne treatments are of 2 types. The first one is focused on restricting the bacteria’s growth in acne lesions. The other one is targeted to reduce the overactive sebaceous oil glands that are involved frequently in the development of blackheads and clogging of skin’s pores. The laser treatment can also reduce the breakouts and minimize the severity of acne.

(2) Duration of Laser Acne Treatment

Laser treatments usually last less than 30 minutes except in other cases where more treatments are required. Additional 3-5 laser acne treatments spread in months may be needed depending on the condition of the acne, whether severe or mild.

(3) Is Laser Acne Treatment Painless?

In general, patients should not feel pain with the laser acne treatment. Therefore there is no need for an anesthetic for the procedure. And this is just one of the advantages of this modern equipment for treating acne.

(4) What People Should Consider?

People should consider one’s skin color before having their acne treated with laser. The color of the acne scars will be different depending on the skin pigment. To ensure that no possible discoloration happens, or at least only a minimum occurs, one should talk to the dermatologist before treatment.

It is very important that the doctor is qualified to perform such procedure. The laser is not a cure but a treatment, and therefore should be treated with patience, like other forms of treatment. If one’s doctor is an experienced and licensed laser practitioner, there are minimum risks for patients.

A person who has an acne problem should make sure that the treatment chosen is the treatment they want to undergo. So, it’s best to talk to the doctor and ask for advice.
