General considerations

Cold intolerance can be an indication of a metabolic problem.

Some people (often very slender women) do not tolerate cold environments simply because they have a minimum amount of body fat and are unable to keep warm.
Common Causes

     * Anemia (low blood counts)
     * Anorexia nervosa
     * Severe chronic
     * Poor overall health
     * Hypothyroidism
     * Blood vessel problems such as Raynaud’s phenomenon

What to Expect at Your Office

The doctor will take your medical history and perform a physical exam.

Some of the medical history questions may include:

     * Time Pattern
           or you always been intolerant of cold?
           o Have you developed recently?
           o Have you been getting progressively worse?
           or Do you often feel cold when other people do not complain of the same?
     * HISTORY
           o How is your diet?
           o How is your general health?
           o What is your height and weight?
           o What other symptoms do you have?

Diagnostic tests that may be performed include:

     * Blood tests
     * Complete blood count (CBC)
     * Serum TSH

If he made a diagnosis related to cold intolerance, the patient may want to note that diagnosis in your personal medical record.
